Life at Warrior Meets Scholar
The Warrior: The most difficult path one can walk. It is a life of unrelenting discipline, complete dedication to one's skillset, and an unbreakable moral code. There are not many who will choose this life of servitude.
The Scholar: One who also chooses a very difficult path to walk. It is a life of endless gains in knowledge while maintaining an objective view of the world. As one gains knowledge they must not be tainted by the manipulation of written words. An extremely difficult task.
Warrior meets Scholar: When these two meet they are an unstoppable force. They are able to answer the following: "Are you able to be both martial and spiritual? Can you overcome your greatest opponent?"
Our Clan

Ricardo "Vovo" Amaral
Professor- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Ricardo “Vovô” Amaral was born in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started Judo and Karate at 10 years old. He practiced surfing, windsurfing, swimming, and biking. He moved to California in 1992.
Ricardo “Vovô” Amaral started his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in 1994 at the Rickson Gracie Academy in West Los Angeles, California, in 1994. Later, he moved to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy owned by Rorion Gracie, training with Royce Gracie, in Torrance, Ca. It was then that he had the honor to roll with Master Helio Gracie (at the time, over 80 years of age).
Ricardo “Vovô” had to interrupt his training due to a cancer in the liver in 1997. After the treatment, and when confirmed he was in remission, Vovô started Mountain Biking, a sport he practices to this day.
In 2011, Ricardo “Vovô” felt he was ready to return to the sport he loved the most, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He joined Gracie Barra in Escondido, San Diego County, California and in 4 years, he received his Black Belt from Professor Magid Hage. Professor Vovo is currently a registered IBJJF 2nd Degree Black Belt.

Bethany Silva
Lead Coach- Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Coach Bethany Silva is a local to St George, UT having lived here her entire life. Bethany began her martial arts journey at the age of 8 and has been teaching kids since she was 16 years old. At the age of 23 she now finds herself as a certified IBJJF Purple Belt under the tutelage of IBJJF Certified Second Degree Black Belt Ricardo ‘Vovo’ Amaral. Not only is she an exceptional Jiu-Jitsu practitioner but she also is a very talented striking artist recently adopting the Muay Thai fighting style from Head Instructor Marcus Corvino.
Bethany leads by example, demonstrating that BJJ is about technique, not size and strength. Bethany will be bringing this example to our Kid’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program as the Lead Kid’s Jiu-Jitsu Coach.

Piper
100% Chiweenie, Piper also known as "Dobbs" is one of the school mascots. She is the alpha dog in the room and is living proof that size means nothing. Leo Maxwell III
Leo is our resident Border Collie. He is a lover not a fighter and will never pass up a chance for a hug or a game of fetch. Shiny objects will distract him and he enjoys spending most of his time staring at our cat Smallz.

Smallz Fu
Smallz is the real brains behind the operation. She's loves getting a good nap and getting a long scritch scratch session. Do not get between her and her macros! You will regret your life decisions up to this point.
